Welcome, Home….
In the 20 years of developing our training center, we have organized trainings and retreats for thousands of activists, and we feel confident our approach works: our center is fully self-sustaining; activists and NGO workers appreciate our holistic approach of integrating spiritual and mindful practices as a foundation for our social justice activism and movement building; and our center promotes self-reliance, ecological and personal wellbeing, and community building by constructing our buildings ourselves and with volunteers with natural, locally sourced building materials.
In 2015, we at IWP realized another dream of creating a safe retreat space where activists can come on their own to rest, recover, relax, reflect, rejuvenate, surrounded by natural beauty, a supportive community, and ‘permission’ for solitude if that is preferred. The need and desire for a safe space, particularly for women and LGBT activists, for rest and retreat has been continually identified as a desperate need by activists all over the world and yet so few exist.
In February 2015, IWP purchased a mango orchard (!) and we’ve built up the retreat center in women’s building workshops over the last 7 years. To date, we have 2 small houses, a kitchen/common room, meditation space and small shed.
In 2023, we plan to build one more small house.
We organize the women’s building workshops with Pun Pun Center for Self Reliance (www.punpunthailand.org). IWP and Pun Pun are a perfect match for women’s building courses, bringing together feminism and natural building, as well as a belief that work and play should always integrate the building of community.
Suan San Santi is self-funded, working on the premise that commitment and energy to create such a needed space will help sustain it. The space operates on donations and volunteer labour.
Throughout the year, we organize group retreats focused on mindful activism and wellbeing. We also accept independent volunteers who can live on the land and help us with maintenance and building. Contact us for more details.
